Nonlinear Model Predictive Control of a Robotic Soft Esophagus

Palliation of dysphagia has driven the development a Robotic Soft Esophagus (RoSE), which provides novel in vitro platform for esophageal stent testing and food viscosity studies. In RoSE, peristaltic wave generation control were done an open-loop manner since conduit lacked visibility embedded sensing capability. Hence, this work, RoSE version 2.0 (RoSEv2.0) is designed with Time Of Flight (TOF) pressure sensors to measure displacement air pressure, respectively, modeling control. Model Predictive Control (MPC) RoSEv2.0 implemented govern peristalsis profile autonomously. The MPC used Sparse Identification Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDYC) models estimate future states ROSEv2.0. dynamic are discovered from TOF sensor data. Peristalsis waves speed 20 mm\s, wavelength 75 mm, amplitudes 5, 7.5, 10 mm successfully generated by MPC.
